4/8 presidents of VN after 1975 were and is SVNese people in which, 3 later ones were ex VC - Nguyen Minh Triet, Truong Tan Sang and Nguyen Xuan Phuc (current PR). The 1st one was the acting president of DRV since 1961 and PR of DRV right when Ho Chi Minh died in 1969. He still continued to keep his president post of VN after 1975, until his death in 1980, PR Ton Duc Thang.

5/11 primer ministers of VN after 1975 were SVNese people. 4 later ones were also ex VC - Vo Van Kiet, Phan Van Khai, Nguyen Tan Dung and Nguyen Xuan Phuc. The last one was elected to the current president of VN. The 1st one was all war time PM of DRV, since 1955. He continued to keep his post after 1975 until his retire in 1987. PM Pham Van Dong

The current VNese gov then is not just the successor of DRV, which was called NVN by the west but also of NLF, famous with the acronym VC.

All the leaders of DRV war effort were SVNese people - PR Ton Duc Thang above, PM Pham Van Dong above and General Secretary of VCP, Le Duan. His home district was Trieu Phong, just about 40km south of Ben Hai river, in SVNese soil.

If the current VNese gov was something succeeded of “only” DRV, it also was the succeeded of something SVNese.

The question is misleading, or misunderstanding, at best. There are no North and South Vietnam as countries. There are only Vietnamese and some fellows who, for various reasons, are paid by Americans to fight against their own country for the interest of the US. They are Vietnamese from both the northern and southern parts who voluntarily and blindly or under force took the wrong path.

My understanding is: Vietnamese people always see Vietnam as a single unified country. Now nearly all associated with the former South Vietnamese Government have passed away. Many of them fled the country anyway. The new generation people don’t feel loyalty to the old South Vietnamese Regime. While there are things about their current government they want to change, They accept it that Vietnam will always be a single, unified country.

Answer: Perhaps, the people in not only South Vietnam but also North Vietnam view their Vietnamese government which is the successor of North Vietnam as their true legitimate government. It is why they supported North Vietnam to defeated France and the French puppet - The state of Vietnam , the US , and their US puppet- South Vietnam regime , as well as China and the Chinese pawn in Cambodia - the Khmer Rouge to secure the independence, freedom and territorial integrity of Vietnam.

Perhaps, some of the Vietnamese in South Vietnam had no other choice LIKE many of the US people in the former Confederate States of America/Southern US states must accept the US government which is the successor of the northern US states/ United States in the American civil war 1861–1865 after the Northern States/the United States “liberated” the Southern States/Confederate States of America

In economy, the North has to copy the South, following the market economy of the previous South. Most Vietnamese prefer watching movies in Southern accent. Most Vietnamese prefer listening to the music of the previous South Vietnam because that music shows more emotion, more joyful, more elegant (no propaganda). Hanoi was copying the lifestyle of previous Saigon after “đổi mới" / Perestroika 1989; more coffee drinks, more Honda ridings…
