Why did the Vietnamese traditionally walk barefoot?

You must see them in the pass, where almost of VNese were farmers.

And in the VNese wet rice fields, a barefoot is the best way back then to work, when the waterproof cloths was not invented.

And they had not to participate regularly to some “protocol” procedures then they did not need to wear something on foot.

In the past, ordinary Vietnamese people often wear guốc mộc. They look like slippers but made of wood. They are very stiff and make huge noise while walking. So for convenience, while working on the fields or other labor intensive work, Vietnamese people in the past walked bare foot. But they often carried the guốc mộc with them and put on after finishing those muddy jobs.

You can’t run when you are wearing Guốc mộc. Below are s ome examples of “Guốc mộc”
