Vietnamese don’t have a neutral I/me/my/mine and you/your/yours, but a complex set of hierarchical pronouns, characteristic of Confucian societies that place heavy emphasis on social order.
Every single school in Vietnam has a banner that says tiên học lễ, hậu học văn (先學禮, 後學文), meaning “learn etiquette first, then learn words.” The heavy emphasis on etiquette first and literacy later is also extremely Confucian.
There are still over ten Confucian Temples in Vietnam, with the most popular one in Hanoi, where people go to pray for good luck in education and enjoy calligraphy.
Vietnam is still highly patriarchal, which is also Confucian, but then again, most cultures in the world are patriarchal.
Confucianism places heavy emphasis on literature. In Vietnam, a good handwriting is said to determine your personality, so courses that teach proper handwriting are still mandatory. Compare that to calligraphy in Japan and China.
