Today, April 30 is Reunification Day in Vietnam. What's it called by the anti-communist Vietnamese émigrés?

The way I have been looking at April 30 of every year may be different than for other Vietnamese Americans. Yes I have been in The US and have been American longer than most. I came to the US from Europe as immigrant, not as refugee. Unlike the boat people, I was against American war in Vietnam. I love Americanway of life. That was why I immigrated to America and became its citizen as soon as I could. But I did know that America was killing lots of Vietnamese not for benefit of Vietnam. The US never and will never fight any where in the world unless it is for America’s benefit. That was precisely the case of American/Vietnam war. It was for the interest of America. I am for America and I am for Vietnam . No foreign interference in Vietnam. I have been American for almost 60 years, paying taxes from the first day. I have been happy American. I am happy to see independent and prosperous Vietnam.

Is it a serious question which implies NO sympathy and compassion for the Ex-Boat People people who lost their beloved country Republic Vietnam (VNCH) in April 30th, 1975 and lost of many lives while trying to escape the dictatorship Vietnamese Communist Regime?!

I wish the Vietnamese people has capacity to understand the US Civil War to see how noble the US Northerners winners and leaders In Lincoln treating the US Southerners losers with respect and compassion.

I am deeply sad that I lost my beloved country RVN (VNCH) but I am so very HAPPY to have a wonderful life in US. I always appreciate the wonderful help and opportunities in my new beloved country US & I truly love and respect American people who have been very generous with support the Boat People Refugees since 1975.

The April 30th in every year always reminds me the tragic lost of my beloved country RVN (VNCH); reminds me the sad lives of my people in South Vietnam since 1975; but it always reminds me how lucky I am to have a wonderful life in America. My successful life in America has been amazing. The American Dream has been amazing not for me but also for many Ex-Boat People Refugees (Ti. Na.n) who successfully escaped out of Vietnam after the darkest day of South Vietnam history - April 30th, 1975 - ????????????????????????❤️????

As far as I know (with a tiny tint of humor), the day is called “Day of the Burned Testicle” (Ngày Phỏng Dái, this is a way of tongue-twisting language for fun the Vietnamese often do). Hope my reply does make you satisfied because I know you never lack of knowledge about this day, you already knew what the proper answer should be. So, to give you a change of air, I give you an improper answer!

With absolute respect and solumn salute to you!

In America, I would divide it between the older generation who speak primarily Vietnamese, and the younger generation who speak primarily English.

Among the older generation, I've seen them use Ngày Quốc Hận , which translates as National Day of Resentment. I’ve seen other people posting Ngày Mất Nước (Day of Loss of the Country).

Among the younger generation or English speakers, they use the term “Black April”. I don’t know where this term came from.
