Buy Electronics through customs

0 votes

Hey all We want to bring old electronics (laptops, phones, cameras) to give to relatives. What is the allowance on the number of gadgets per person through customs? Do they still treat nonVietnamese and Vietnamese travelers differently nowadays? Will we get harrassed if we brought 2 laptops each. We don't share the same last names so we can try to play it off as not being related? Thanks!

I am not in a position to advise you. From reading previous posts on the subject I have learned that some travellers have been subjected to questions and harassment. Those were overseas Vietnamese exclusively.
The trouble seems to worsen if the laptops in question are brand new.
I am not an overseas Vietnamese and I seem to walk through hazzle free every time. But I never bring brand new equipment.

On every trip I bring 6-7 used phones and as many eye glasses, sometimes 1-2 laptops, all destined to be given away here. Add my own eyeglasses, my own tablet pc and my MacBook Pro plus my HTC One phone. Never had anyone ask any questions.
