There was some opposition to the draft even before the major U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War began. Baby Boomers took advantage of exemptions and deferments for things like going to college and having families. Some men ran to Canada or other foreign countries to avoid serving in the war and some claimed it was against their beliefs, others burned their draft cards.
