Why did support of the Vietnam War begin to dwindle by the late 1960s?

There were a few reasons for the loss of support.

The first was the ridiculously high number of American casualties. At the end of the war there had been over 50,000 American soldiers killed in action and nearly another 35,000 who were either prisoners of war or missing in action.

The second reason was the changes made to the draft. People of high econmic status and people attending college as full time students were no longer exempt from the draft.

It was the longest war in American history and resulted in nearly 60,000 American deaths. Many also felt the war was unnecessary.

In all honesty, the liberal news media never liked the US being in Viet Nam, and outright lied in their news reports about what was going on there. The U.S. won every major battle fought in Viet Nam. So the media ignored the successes and reported only negative news to the American people.
