Formally, the city is called Ho Chi Minh City.

Many people, regardless of their personal ideology, still call the city Saigon.

About the press, whenever they mention something bad such as crimes, they use the word “Saigon” more.

When they have good news to report, most of the time they call the city “Ho Chi Minh”.

Minh Tran play game >HOAX! Exactly of Communism Party.

Ho chi minh is being bushy, homeless, uns occupationless (but the same The Fox!).

Of couse, in Sài gòn no body that known him. Then they don't call: HCM (dirty)

Vietnam and China Communist Party only, did used deceived for children to died for they (vi-xi) in the War!

Poorly written question but, yes, Hoh Chi Mein or whatever, is still called Saigon and this question has been asked several times ????

Oh, yes! Indeed the name Saigon is still widely used in daily routine!

Suffice to say that the name itself has no negative connotations and can be expressed freely in everyday life.

I would say people still call Sai gon but nowadays people normally call it as Ho Chi Minh city.

Officially, the southern metropolis's name is Ho Chi Minh City, and has been for many years, but there are still a number of locals and visitors alike that call it Saigon .

In 1976, the government of a unified Vietnam renamed Saigon to its current name in honor of leader Ho Chi Minh.

Well, the official name is Ho Chi Minh City (often abbreviated „ HCMC “), although the southern metropolis has been called Saigon for centuries. But after the Americans, and with them South Vietnam lost the war in 1975, North Vietnam took over and forcefully re-united the split country.

FYI,

Current songs are honoring the name Saigon. At the time the North took over the South, whoever were calling the name Saigon would be considered “reactionary / tên phản động"

Yeah, pretty much. 90% Vietnamese (approx) don’t think saying Saigon offensive, in the news they sometimes say Saigon too.

In official documents and formal occasions, HCM is used. Other than that, it’s almost always Saigon since HCM is a long, cumbersome, and ugly name. Why bother?

Many of the older Vietnamese settlers here in Louisiana still call the city “Saigon". No one ever mentions the name “Ho Chi Minh".
