I've noticed photos of a railway line that appears to run between houses somewhere in Hanoi. I've tried to find out where exactly this is, but no available. Is anyone able to help? We are visiting Vietnam in January and I would really love to see this area. Thank you

The tracks in Hanoi make up one of the more interesting parts of any train trip in Vietnam, in my opinion. It's really hard to miss because one simply walks west in the Old Quarter (direct routes include Bat Dan or Lan Ong) until you hit Phung Hung - directly across that street are the tracks. Just north of the train station (Ga) is a little pedestrian street called Tong Duy, Tan aka Food Street, where you can get a great bowl of soup or steamed clams at one of the several outdoor stalls.

You can enjoy 15 minutes ride on the train from Hà Nội station to Giáp Bát station. It runs along Lê Duẩn, then Giải Phóng street, passing houses, a park, a hospital, some universities. The bus station is opposite the train station, just across the street. There you can take a bus back to the city center.

You can start your search at the cross of Lê Duẩn and Khâm Thiên street. But I think you should ask a Hanoian to help you.
