Is the HCMC Opera any good? Does someone know the usual cost of tickets and availability? Any similar alternatives? Thanks, as always!
I like opera in Vietnam. The Vietnamese have a great singing culture. There's a soprano living in my building. Listening to her is a treat.Alas, my building isn't in Saigon, so I don't know about the opera there. Entrance fees to anything in Vietnam are usually very, very cheap.
I have to say that it really depends on which programs are operated. There're some free performances but some you have to pay (a range of 10-40$).
There's an amateur venue at 12/2F Luong Dinh Cua street in District 2.No admission fee. It's a place where anybody can join on the weekend between 19h to 22h.This art form has been incorporated into plays, not unlike western operas or musicals; in Vietnamese, it's called "Cai Luong".
