Why did the US support canceling elections during the Vietnam War?
The US feared that a popular election in Vietnam would allow communism to get a foothold in the country which is what they did not want. Congress agreed that the Communist menace must be contained and that American foreign policy should be based on the preservation of those regimes prepared to fight it.
Because US and south Vietnam would be loser for sure.
