Vietnamese now are knowing the truth about the war. The country got the most benefit during and after Vietnam war was China, not Vietnam. After Vietnam war, China gained more lands and islands from Vietnam.

Zhou En Lai advised Ho chi Minh to divide Vietnam in half at Geneva Convention in 1954 with hidden agenda: Stratagem #5 Looting a burning house (趁火打劫, Chèn huǒ dǎ jié).

After Nixon-Mao treaty, Chinese Navy attacked South Vietnam at Paracel islands and currently control the Paracel islands.

Furthermore, China encouraged Khmer Rouge attacked Southern Vietnam border and killed Vietnamese in 1977. The climax happened when China invaded Vietnam in 1979 in the name “teaching Vietnamese a lesson" that killed over 60 thousand Vietnamese. In 1988, Chinese Navy suddenly attacked Vietnamese troop stationing in one among many islets from Spratly chain that kill 64 Vietnamese soldiers.

With a broad ambition of expansion from China, the leaders of Communist Vietnam got shocked and became alert.

I’m a Vietnamese but I am not a representative for the whole Vietnamese, so here I only write my personal thoughts. I don’t think we are pro-America, we are friendly to anyone or any country that does no harm to us at current time.

My grandfather was a veteran but unfortunately he passed away too soon to tell me about his life in the battles. I am always curious about his and his friends’ life. Whenever I read a book or watch a movie about the wars in Vietnam, I can’t hold my tears. But I am always educated that the hatred is an obsession that haunts and destroys one inside out. Forgiveness is a way we make our life better and make our country a better place to live. Wars brought sorrows, losses, tears; a lot people from both side have died, and many families lost their beloved ones.

Thanks for the sacrifices of our precedestors, we live in peace now, our responsibility is to maintain that peace and develop our country for ourselves and for the next generations. We don’t want to sow hatred and hatefulness. Anyone from any country who comes to Vietnam without any evil intentions (such as divisive purpose, violation of other countries’ sovereignty) is warmly welcomed.

They aren’t pro-American they are just not anti-anybody. Marxism sees class divisions as the root cause of oppression and wars. Not that the people of any particular country are bad people.

The vast majority of the war crimes were committed by the VC and the NVA. It was so expected that it did not even make the news. But we were so appalled by American war crimes that they made the news worldwide and stayed there for weeks.

As Union General William T. Sherman once said, “War is all hell”. While there were incidents where innocents were wounded and killed by U.S. servicemen in the performance of their duties and a small percentage were attributable to misconduct. One of the most infamous was the village of My Lai that was wiped out by a battalion of U.S. soldiers under the command of Lt. William Calley. Calley served some 3 years of a 10 year sentence for his conduct. No one has ever excused his misconduct nor should North Vietnam be excused for the slaughter of tens of thousands of South Vietnamese Citizens after South Vietnam surrendered. Vietnam today has “normal” relations with the U.S. because their economy would suffer without it.

I guess the war crimes of the CCP in the 2nd Vietnamese War, and ongoing encroachments on their sovereignty by the Panda Pooh global lovers are fresher in their memories?
